Landworks Studio worked closely with Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation to engage the neighborhood and develop a master plan for this park.  The preferred plan capitalizes on what the park already provides to the neighborhood by taking advantage of the existing winding trail, the mature trees and open meadow, while also creating a unique space.  The large play area will include a tree house/fort as the main play element, along with other engaging play equipment.  A shelter and boardwalk with a dry riverbed will also be integrated within this space.  The tennis court infrastructure will remain and upgraded into multi-sport courts.

Smaller pocket play areas are interspersed along the trail waiting to be discovered and ensures the park is a fun and adventurous experience for all ages.  Large swaths of native meadow are proposed to reduce the amount of mowing and to introduce opportunities for habitat creation and educational/interpretive areas.  The creek connection allows users to cross above, below and interact with the water by incorporating large limestone slabs and a swinging bridge.  These elements will provide endless play experiences, all while celebrating the native landscape of the site.
