POSITION SUMMARY: This person will work closely with senior level staff to develop designs and documentation and be involved in projects from start to finish.  The projects range from intimate small-scale projects to community-wide plans.  The person in this role will have hands on every aspect of the projects making the pursuit of licensure easier.  This person will have more autonomy than in many larger offices and will engage with both landscape architects and planners. It is also an advantage for anyone wanting to see the business aspects of a design firm.

WHO WE ARE: Located in growing downtown Olathe, Landworks Studio is a woman-owned, landscape architecture + planning firm founded over 20 years ago. Our office currently has 6 full-time staff members who work in a very collaborative, studio environment. We work on projects ranging from city-wide master plans to parks to public safety campuses to splash pads. Over the years, we’ve designed a variety of places across the metro and beyond. Locally, you may have seen our work at Meadowbrook Park, KC Pet Project or the MLK Playground. While every endeavor is unique, our fundamental goals to elevate the users’ experience and provide opportunities for lasting memories, are always present.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Supports the business in all areas, including from time to time the duties that may be outside of normal job duties
  • Stays up to date with the latest landscape architectural trends in recreation and design
  • Pursues licensure, as applicable
  • Collaborates with staff on projects and proposals
  • Meets with clients to discuss design ideas, propose solutions, provide project status and schedule meetings as directed
  • Provides support, as directed, in all facets of the project, proposal or assignment
  • Thinks independently to arrive at the best and most prudent decisions regarding project completion
  • Performs initial quality check and submits deliverables to Project Manager for final approval and submission to client
  • Demonstrates good judgment in investigating problems and making decisions
  • Notifies Project Manager when client request services out of scope agreement
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor/Master of Landscape Architecture degree from an accredited program and be working toward licensure
  • Must have at least 6 months of experience in the field of landscape architecture, preferably in a private practice setting

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge and awareness of plant materials in this region
  • Familiarity with software programs used to produce graphics, including but not limited to Sketchup, InDesign and Lumion
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and manage tasks of varying sized and complexity
  • Common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to prepare information for decision-making
  • Time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with the Owner, employees and clients
  • Detail oriented
  • Self-Starter
  • Work independently with minimal work direction
  • Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Drive for project completion, focusing on the Company and client needs
  • Proficiency in English
  • Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, ratios, and statistical information, and apply the concepts of basic algebra
